November 2010 Biodiversity and Forestry Seminar presentation
In this seminar, Tundi Agardy and Winnie Lau presented a new compendium of information on marine markets and will discuss the findings of the La Paz Katoomba Meeting. Agardy and Lau will also present progress being made in demonstration projects under the MARES Program. Marine and coastal ecosystem services are critically important for humanity everywhere, yet resources to protect these services are generally lacking. Innovative financing, including the development of coastal Payments for Ecosystem Services schemes, marine biodiversity offsets, and conservation banking, can generate much needed funds to better manage coastal and marine systems, and facilitate engagement of local communities in their management.
